Service Description

Training Beyond the Classroom is a four-week, small-group support course for puppies under a year old who have completed my puppy classes. This course helps transition learning from the classroom into the real world, giving guardians the confidence to handle their puppies independently while continuing to build their puppy’s skills, socialisation, and emotional resilience. Puppies will be introduced to a variety of environments under my watchful eye, practising core skills such as recall, loose lead walking, handling, readiness, and appropriate social interactions. The focus is on reinforcing what they already know while building confidence in new settings, helping them cope with increasing distractions and challenges. Each week takes place in a different real-world setting — from a park to woodland paths, the beach, and finishing in a street environment. Additional games and cues are introduced to increase focus, engagement, and connection with their guardians. Throughout the course, guardians learn to read their puppy’s body language, manage arousal, and choose reinforcement strategies that support emotional wellbeing. This is about preparing your puppy for adolescence, giving them the tools and confidence to make good choices in everyday life. Group size is limited to four dogs to allow individual support. Sessions last approximately one hour and run over four weeks. Course locations (more details provided upon booking): Week 1: Hazlehead Football Fields Week 2: Black Dog (beach walk) Week 3: Hazlehead Forest Week 4: Bridge of Don (street environment & café-style settling) If your puppy has foundation skills but struggles to generalise them in the real world, this course provides the guidance, support, and confidence both you and your puppy need.

Bookings & Payments: Full payment is required at the time of booking to secure your space. Places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If the course is full, you may join the waiting list and we’ll contact you if a space becomes available. Vaccinations & Health: All dogs must be up-to-date with vaccinations, flea and worm treatments. If your dog is unwell (vomiting, diarrhoea, coughing, etc.), please do not attend and contact me to discuss options. Equipment: A detailed list of required equipment will be provided in a handout before the course, including what to bring each week. As a minimum, dogs should have a harness, flat collar, short lead (no extendables), and a long line is recommended. Behaviour & Suitability: Dogs must be comfortable around other dogs, people, children, and common outdoor distractions such as bikes. Dogs who are reactive, fearful, or stressed in group settings may be better suited to private sessions, which can be arranged. Dogs who bark excessively at people or dogs in walks or at home should be discussed with me before booking. Attendance & Missed Classes: Missing two or more classes may prevent continuation in the course. Missed classes are non-refundable and cannot be carried over, but handouts and guidance will be provided where possible. Cancellations within seven days of the start date are non-refundable. No-shows will not be refunded or rescheduled. Weather & Outdoor Conditions: Classes take place outdoors and go ahead in most weather conditions. Waterproof clothing is advised. In rare cases of cancellation (extreme weather or instructor illness), an alternative date or credit will be offered.
